About Us
London Mandolin Ensemble is a small chamber orchestra. Our members are keen plucked string players from London and the surrounding areas.
We are pleased to have revived, in name at least, the original London Mandolin Ensemble,
which first met in Petit France and then Pimlico, London, in the early 1970s. Members of this group included Paul Marquis, who studied and worked with virtuoso mandolinist Hugo D'Alton at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the British composer Eileen Pakenham.
Our repertoire covers a wide range of classical music, from early music to contemporary works. Instrumentation is based on the Romantic quartet tradition of mandolin 1, mandolin 2, octave mandola and guitar.
