Alison is pictured here with Baby, her 1933 Embergher 5bis. She was a formidable, virtuosic talent, and a trailblazer for classical mandolin in the UK. Always full of help, advice and encouragement, Ali was an inspiration to us all, and is much missed.

Published by Oxford University Press, The Classical Mandolin is a useful companion volume to The Early Mandolin. It details the history of the modern mandolin, and its use by mainstream composers such as Verdi, Mahler, Schoenberg and Boulez.
Eileen Packenham (1914-2009) - the British composer who wrote some 21 pieces for mandolin and piano, 13 for orchestra, and other solo mandolin and ensemble works. She was an active member of the original London Mandolin Ensemble in the early 1970s.
