Although not a mandolin player, Jack will have been well-known to many in the BMG world. He was conductor and musical director of Watford Plectra Orchestra from the 1960s until early 2013 when ill-health forced his retirement. He was also conductor of the original London Mandolin Ensemble in the 1970s when he became a friend of the late Eileen Pakenham.
He was a fine, sensitive musician with great insight into plucked string music. He was endlessly patient and had a great sense of humour.
He will be greatly missed.
