Here's a rare photo of the Calace family - Raffaele, Nicola, Maria (Raffaele's daughter), and his father Antonio.
London Mandolin Ensemble took part in the annual London Mandolin Festival concert in May this year at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate church, in the City of London, with a baroque themed programme.
Giuseppe Pettine (pictured here in 1898 with his Vega mandolin) was a mandolin virtuoso who emigrated with his family from Italy to the U.S. in 1889.
He published a comprehensive 6 volume Mandolin Method, and worked with Vega instruments of Boston to refine mandolin design. He also developed his own line of mandolin picks, which bear his name. As a composer he greatly contributed to the mandolin repertoire, writing original music for solo mandolin and mandolin in combination with other instruments. British Pathé recently uploaded their archives to YouTube, and we found this lovely footage of the 1949 and 1951 BMG Rallies in London... LME attended the biennial BMG Rally, held in Bristol this year. We played a baroque programme at the event, including works by Sweelinck, Bach and Scarlatti.
Several people have asked where they can buy lightweight aluminium footrests and music stands. We got ours at Bridport Music: http://www.bridportmusic.co.uk/
Two notable figures of the classical mandolin world pictured here together - Raffaele Calace and Carlo Munier.
